Are Head-Up Displays (HUDs) a Useful Feature?

I recently made a Reddit post titled: Not sure if this has been said before, but Heads Up Display is one of the best car features (in my opinion) which you can find here. When I read through the comments I mostly met with people who agree with my opinion and nobody (that I saw) that was truly disrespectful, but quite a few said they dislike HUD's.

I quite liked u/babyweights702 's words, and although I have never owned a car with a HUD before, I have used one before on a 2008 BMW 535xi and I thought it was the one of the greatest features. Never having to take my eyes off the road to make sure I won't be pulled over because I was following the car in front that was doing 15 over the limit is fantastic and really needs to be in more cars. Some others expressed their discontent with HUD's, especially when wearing polarized sunglasses. Something else that surprised me from the comments was how early HUD's were available on cars. Head-up displays were first implemented on fighter planes in the 1970's, and the first car with this technology was the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme in 1988. It's very surprising to see that after 33 years of having this technology, not even the base model of most vehicles have this. Now I'm not saying that this is too uncommon, but as useful as a feature as this is, it really should be standard. If you aren't a fan of HUD's, then you can turn it off, but if you like them - then you have one of my favourite features in cars that also can make you a safer driver.
Another thing I noticed (and agree with) is that the Tesla Model 3 desperately needs a HUD. Although looking at your speedometer in your peripheral vision might seem annoying, I've heard it's not as bad as it seems even though I have never driven one my self. Still, I think a HUD would keep the minimalist look while allowing drivers to see useful information like... Speed, or things like autopilot, navigation, road speed song, etc. It's just a projected dashboard by this point. One final complaint to settle is the daytime issue. Many people complain about poor visibility of their HUD in the daytime which seems to be on a model-to-model basis rather than a universal issue as I had no issues seeing the HUD in the BMW in the daytime.
Head-up display's are fantastic features that really needs to be in more cars, especially 33 years after they first were developed. Once navigation systems starting popping up in car models, they became the industry standard and now nearly every new car that you can buy has one, but HUD's have existed for longer and still haven't caught on nearly as much, and I think this should change.

Thanks for reading and be sure to leave a comment that express your thought on the whole scenario surrounding head-up displays.
